Maude's Review

It is important to us to see different theatre shows to learn new skills and to become better at what we do.  To gain new ideas so that we can put on new shows so that everyone can hear about the Misfits.
We are able to go and see shows because we have been given some money by the Arts Council to fund our explorations.

This is my review of the show we went to see and I've worked hard on it:

WORDS

These words have come from a workshop we did, about 'isolation'. We made body sculptures, photography, movement pieces and poetry. This is a work in progress.

Storytelling

Ken says:  We told a story today about a little boy who had a big ball and it was raining, the boy gave it to a bartender who gave it to an old man with white hair, a frock coat and checkered trousers. The old man did karate with the ball - the story got stranger.....
We made up the story by each person saying a different thing or acting it out. It was very good!

Change the Record

We are looking forward to performing 'St George and the Dragon" between 4 and 5 pm at Change the Record on Saturday 9th July.

Change the Record looks like it will be a really fun day. The picture below tells you all about it.

We will also be performing at the Bristol Habourside Festival. When we know more about it, we will tell you!

Relaxation

We made a spiral of feeling. We were using a positive feeling and a negative feeling. We threw away the bad and welcomed the good.
The music was soft and gentle.

It made me feel like I was on a canoe far away in Canada looking at all the animals I could find.

The Myth The Man The Legend

Anthony says: We have planned to make a video of 'Craig Allan: The Myth The Man The Legend'.  We talked about ideas for locations. We need to find out if we can get permission to film in certain locations.

Gaynor says: We played lots of different games where we had to take turns.

Ken says: We haven't got a video camera. Where are we going to get one from? It's not cheap.

Debbie says: I think that it's a good idea to film the performance and show it on the website because lots of people will be able to see our acting who haven't seen us before. It would be good to see what the public think of it.

Clare gives The Misfits a go.

Clare, a friend of Gaynor's came to the Misfits session today to see if she would like to join.

Clare says: I was a bit scared at first but now I'm not scared because I found out how to do things - like acting.
I feel happy -  I would like to come again and act out my story.
I want people to pay me for my acting.

Rehearsals

Thoughts on our rehearsals for 'Craig Allen: The Myth, The Man, The Legend'

Debbie says: The rehearsals are very useful. We did it with and without music. The music we have chosen blends in very well with the actions we use. We work together as a team to work out how to do things.

Glenda says: It's still work in progress at the moment. I feel good about what we are doing but we just need to work on the timing.

Craig says: Today we played a name game and introduced ourselves to Lisa. Lisa was a visitor who came to see what we do.

What we did today

Julia says: Today we have been going over Craig's story. It reminded me of my happy childhood memories. We've been rehearsing for a performance which illustrates Craig's life story. Craig used to live in Scotland.

Gaynor says: I liked playing the stand-up/sit-down game - it's nice, it makes me happy, it makes me excited. I enjoyed hearing about Craig's life, years ago. Craig told us about when he was bitten by a boy on his first day at school.

Ken says: It was good what we did today. Everyone knows what they're doing. I liked the scene where we wind up the Jack-in-a-box and it jumps up.

Nigel writes about his experience of our movement work.

For me, I know how to feel to be comfortable and then I had something like blue colours that makes me colourful, how to be brighter that is to be lighter so they might be lightest. Making shapes with movements.

All the King's Fools -Rehearsals and our visit to Hampton Court on Saturday

 Wednesday, 2 February 2011
Saturday was very cold but an exciting and enjoyable day. There were some very funny bits like when Gregory Tibbets was playing around, but I didn't like having to get up so early on a weekend and get home so late too, but I enjoyed it anyway. Paul Prangly took a spooky photo at the palace of a blue head with it's mouth open in Henry VIII’s painting - let's hope it was a hoax and not a real ghost!!!
Today is the third day of rehearsals and I am very tired but they are going well. We will be doing some hilarious things to make everybody laugh.  Next week I will be working on my solo bit. - Maude Winkler-Reid (Actor)
Five actors from the Misfits have been collaborating with Peet Cooper of Foolscap Productions on a production commissioned by Hampton Court Palace .
The performance - commissioned by Hampton Court and funded by the Arts Council - will show how jesters with learning difficulties performed for Henry VIII five hundred years ago and  became very famous, influencing playwrights such as Shakespeare as he wrote fools into his plays.

Performances are from 24th to 27th February at 11 am and 2pm. For tickets and further booking details visit www.hrp.org.uk or call 0844 482 7777.

The performances are dedicated by the actors to the memory of Robert Taylor who died while involved in the research stage of the project.

Yoga and Massage

Today members of the Misfits Theatre Company enjoyed a taster day of yoga and massage. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves; particularly those who were not sure what to expect from it.
Afterwards people said they felt relaxed and had benefited by feeling good about themselves, more happy and able to concentrate.

The Misfits said a heartfelt thank you to the 'Wellbeing' practitioners who had given their time and energy for free. Everyone agreed they would like to do it all again another day.
